Blighty Guide to Filey
There is more to Filey than people drawing their last breath. Although, that is the most popular pastime in this elegant seaside Town, where Yorkshire people go to die. Even the seagulls have blue rinses.
It can get hectic though, especially in the summer months hours. Then Filey comes to life with the sound of children playing, much to the annoyance of the local residents. It’s best to keep your children out of their way, especially the ones who bomb about in those electric wheelchair thingies. Blighty top tip - Pack a first aid kit just in case.
Filey’s main attraction is the six miles of sandy beach and mile long natural breakwater. It is a breathtaking sight, which is an unfortunate irony as most residents need all the breath they can get.

The town became a holiday resort in Victorian times, when many of today’s residents first visited it. Its Victorian heritage is in evidence in the grand frontages that line the sea front and perch on the chalky cliffs. All this coupled with the attractive gardens make it an ideal place from which to nod off into oblivion. You’ll need your coat though.
Things to see while in the area include the Filey Museum, which houses a fine collection of old junk, the North York Moors, where you can spend hours in the peaceful surroundings with only an ITV film crew for company, and all those castle and abbey ruins that make you crave a nice modern building with one of those newfangled roofs that shelter you from the rain. You’ll need your brolly too!
