Election Watch 5 - Pass the wooden stake
Another day another diatribe about immigration, asylum seekers, travellers and political correctness (all together now) GONE MAAAAD! from Michael Howard. Are the tories a single issue party nowadays? Giving minorities a kicking is obviously Howard’s top priority. Tighten up on immigration, chuck travellers into the streets, allow Bernard Manning back on the TV and everything will be sorted. The NHS, child poverty, crime, and education. Job done. No wonder their moanifesto was so insubstantial.
Being an immigrant himself, perhaps there’s a bit of self-loathing going on. It would be understandable, we don’t like you very much either, Howard. In fact, we curse the day you turned up at Whitby harbour in search of a nightcap.
Of course, he’s only complicit. The fact is there is a vast audience for this kind of hard line rhetoric. Rhetoric that plays on vague notions of minorities getting better deals and a liberal agendas stifling debate, without actually nailing anything down. Talking of nailing things down, where does Howard park his coffin nowadays?
Over in Labourland, all the disenfranchised lefties have come out of the donkey-jacket strewn closet and poured forth their hate on Polly Toynbee, who happens to disagree with them and think it is worth voting Labour. Apparently Toynbee is also the enemy now, because she doesn’t agree with them. Very militant and 1980s.
